swapto now supports real-time translation for phone calls in more than 80 languages. Caseworkers, administrations, social institutions, service centers, and freelancers simply speak their own language on a normal call — the person on the other end hears theirs. No apps, no accounts, no downloads on either side: only a phone call.
When we started swapto, we focused on the language pairs our first partner organizations needed most urgently. Today we're crossing a milestone we're genuinely proud of: 80+ supported languages, covering the native languages of well over 90% of the people your organization will ever have on the line.
What's new
The expansion includes languages that municipalities, counseling services, and migrant offices have been requesting for months — among them Ukrainian, Farsi, Tigrinya, Vietnamese, Tagalog, and Arabic alongside regional variants such as Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Every language works in both directions and any combination: your team speaks German or English; the caller speaks whatever they speak.
Why this matters for organizations, not just for callers
For a private person, a language barrier on the phone is a bad afternoon. For an organization, it's a structural problem that scales:
Public administration and migrant offices handle dozens of languages per week. Certified interpreters are essential for hearings and legal matters — and unavailable at short notice for the everyday calls that make up most of the volume: appointments, document checklists, status updates.
Social institutions and counseling services lose their most important asset — trust — when a conversation stalls at "do you have someone who could translate?" A translated call that just works keeps the counseling relationship with the professional, where it belongs.
Customer service centers face a hard choice today: hire for every language, route callers through a colleague who "speaks a bit of it", or lose the caller. With 80+ languages on every line, language stops being a staffing problem.
Freelancers and small practices — consultants, tax advisors, care services, tradespeople — can now serve clients they previously had to turn away, without hiring anyone.
How the rollout works
All 80+ languages are available to every swapto customer starting today, on every line, at no additional setup. Quality varies slightly across languages — we're transparent about that, and our upcoming research posts explain where and why. We improve first where our partners' call volume actually is.
What's next
More languages, lower latency, and better handling of dialects and code-switching — when callers mix two languages mid-sentence, which happens in real conversations constantly. If your organization needs a language we don't cover yet, tell us: the last 30 additions came directly from partner requests.
